Kindergarten news for the week of May 20th - 24th


Kindergarten news for the week of May 20th – 24th
Buckle up parents!  These are the busiest weeks of the year!! 
Monday— Recess relay.  We will be going to the stadium for the event .  Children may wear gym attire!
Tuesday- and Wednesday-  We will be walking to the high school to practice for graduation.  We will be walking over and back each day so pleaser have your child wear comfortable footwear! 
Thursday- This is our field trip day to Hershey!  This is during the normal timeframe of our school day!  If your child is bringing their own lunch, please have it clearly labeled.
Friday- This is our carnival day!  Hope for good weather!
Please make sure that all library books have been returned to the library or paid for if they were lost!  I am proud to say that our class won another class party for good behavior during our library classes!  Great job!!
We enjoyed celebrating the summer birthdays with our classmates!
We will be working on our memory books during any free time we have this week!  
Please read the 2 yellow notes in your child’s folder! 
I will no longer be testing word lists for the remainder of the school year!

Kindergarten news for the week of May 13th - 17th


Kindergarten Newsletter for the week of May 13th – 17th
We will have another busy week in kindergarten!  We will be testing for report cards and working in our memory books.
In phonics we are learning the sounds for combinations ar, or and er.
In reading we are reading the story Animal Homes.  This is an informational text and we will learn about drawing conclusions.
Important dates:       Thursday- May 23rd will be our kindergarten field trip!  We can’t wait!  I have received all forms!!!!!!
                                Friday- May 24th is our carnival. 
Tuesday- May 28th at 6:00 pm we will have our kindergarten graduation in the high school auditorium.
Graduation will be held on Tuesday- May 28th at 6:00 pm in the high school auditorium.  When the doors open the children will dress in their caps and gowns and sit with their class until they enter the auditorium.  We are asking that the children wear a white collared shirt.  Girls are also asked not to wear their hair up or hair accessories so that the caps fit properly!  Caps and gowns must be returned after Graduation.  The tassel is yours to keep! 
**library books need to be returned next week!!
The backpack program will not distribute backpacks after next week!
Please return your bag after the last distribution

Mrs. Tarantelli's Kindergarten news for the week of May 6th - 10th


Kindergarten Newsletter for the week of May 6th-10th

We will have another busy week in kindergarten!  We will review concepts for our report cards and continue learning phonics rules!

In phonics we are learning the long vowel, consonant sneaky e lessons.  We will now learn other sounds like or, ar, ch, ee  etc.  These will make us better readers!  Watch for some more take home readers!

In reading we are reading the story The House that Tony Lives In.   This is a fictional story and we will discuss the setting of the story.

Important dates:       Tuesday- May 28th  at 6:00 pm we will have our kindergarten graduation in the high school auditorium.

Thursday- May 23rd  will be our kindergarten field trip!  We can’t wait!  Please return your permission slips as soon as possible. 

                                Friday- May 24th is our carnival. 

Your child should have brought home a calendar if they have a summer birthday.  I gave each child a special day to celebrate during school so that they can be the leader, wear a crown and bring treats if you wish!

Please send in your dvd orders by Wednesday if you would like to purchase one.  No orders will be taken after this date!

It looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend!  I hope you can get out and enjoy it!

Kindergarten news for the week of April 22nd - 26th


Kindergarten News for the week of April 22nd  – 26th

v  Next week in Phonics we will be learning the two sounds of digraph oo as in the words hook and tooth.  Please review digraphs ck, sh, and voiced and unvoiced th.  We will not have Show and Tell.

v  In Math we will be learning how to use indirect comparisons to compare the heights or lengths of objects.  We will share a whole by dividing into 2 equal parts.  We will use objects to represent numbers and use numbers to represent groups of objects.


v  We are approaching the end of the year testing for kindergarten.  Each child will be tested by the Reading teachers.  Children will need to write a dictated sentence, recognize, write, and give the sound of every letter of the alphabet, be fluent in phonemic segmentation, be able to provide a word that begins with every letter of the alphabet, and be able to use a word in a sentence.  Please try at home to work on some of the areas to be tested to ensure that your child is fully prepared.

v  Field trip permission slips will be sent home shortly in your child’s folder.  Please complete, sign, and return the permission slip form as soon as possible.  Kindergarten will be traveling to The Ringling Brothers Circus on May 23rd  in Hershey.**Just a reminder:  Students will need to wear the  North Schuylkill T-shirt that was provided by the PTO on the field trip—so be sure you have it ready.

v  In Reading we will read the story Building Beavers. 

v  Please be sure to return the dvd order form with payment if you wish to purchase a dvd. 

v  I sent home coins to practice with your child with half of our class.  Please return these so the rest of the class can practice next week!

v  We will have a PTO sponsored in-school program on Thursday.  It is called Brainshow mania and is always a big hit with the children!

Kindergarten news for the week of April 15th - 19th


Kindergarten News for the week of April 15th – 19th    

This week we will learn digraph sh as in shark.  We will also begin th as in thimble and feather.  We will also be reading sheep books, Mrs. Wishy Washy books and Mrs. McNosh books! 

In math class we will be sequencing events, beginning to count by 2’s and identifying odd and even numbers up to 10, measuring distance using non-standard units, and solving simple subtraction story problems.

In reading we will be reading the story Old MacDonald had a Woodshop.  This is an animal fantasy book and we will discuss the comprehension skill of character analysis.

We will shortly finish our unit on wood and paper.  Today we focused on paper.  Next, as part of the spring season and our FOSS Science curriculum, Kindergarten will be learning about Living Things and Animals.  Over the next month, we will be getting a close up look at Goldfish and Guppies, the life cycle of the painted lady butterfly, and maybe even some worms and insects!

When we return to school on Monday it will be day # 2.  We have gym on day #3.  Monday will be the last day that we have our special first thing in the morning due to PSSA testing!  We will be back to our regular routine on Tuesday!

I was shocked that our graduation pictures came in already!  I hope everyone is happy with them! 

I am asking that you please have your child leave his/her baseball/softball hats at home!  I don’t want anyone to forget it in school and not have it for their very important game after school! 
We are starting to practice our songs for graduation!  It won’t be long now!  I’m really going to miss this class!  We had a great year together!!  (Some of the kids don’t want to go to first grade!  They want to stay in kindergarten

Kindergarten news for the week of April 8th - 12th


Kindergarten News for the week of April 8th – 12th    
This week we will learn digraph ck as in duck.  We are learning a rule that we use –ck after a short vowel in words.  (sock, pack, luck, sick etc.)
In math class we will be practicing addition, learning how to take a survey and tallying the responses, identifying a cone, sorting 3-dimensional objects,  identifying time of day, sequencing events, beginning to count by 2’s and identifying odd and even numbers up to 10.
In reading we will be reading the story Homes around the World.  This story is an informational text and we will practice the comprehension skill of compare and contrast.
We will shortly finish our unit on wood and paper.  Next, as part of the spring season and our FOSS Science curriculum, Kindergarten will be learning about Living Things and Animals.  Over the next month, we will be getting a close up look at Goldfish and Guppies, the life cycle of the painted lady butterfly, and maybe even some worms and insects!
When we return to school on Monday it will be day # 1.  We have gym on day #3.  We have book exchange on TUESDAY!
You may want to begin to hand in your boxtops, Redner’s receipts, Campbell’s soup labels, and moo lids from Turkey Hill before the end of the year! 
I will try to have one more book order before the end of school!
Our graduation pictures went very well!  They turned out great!!  I hope you like the pictures when they arrive!!  I can’t wait until May 28th at 6:00pm----when we have our real graduation!!  We will begin practicing shortly!
