Kindergarten news for the week of January 28th - February 1st

Kindergarten News for the week of January 28th  – February 1st
Next week in kindergarten we will celebrate the 100th day of school----hopefully without weather delays or cancellations!   The 100th day will be on Thursday.  We will make our Groundhog Day predictions on Friday!
In phonics we will be learning the letter Ee as in elephant. This is our last vowel!  Please review all vowel sounds. Show and tell will be on Friday—due to the 100th day celebration!
In reading we will read a story called One Little Mouse.  In this book we will talk about the comprehension strategy sequence and concept blends.  We will read the take home story My Words.
In math we will practice handwriting the numbers 17-20 and problem solving with shapes working with geoboards, ordering objects by length and using pattern blocks to make an ABC pattern.
Monday will be day number 4.  Book exchange is always on day 2.  If there is an early dismissal we miss our special class and the day just changes to the following day.  If we have a 2 hour delay we still have a special but it is shortened.
Please continue to practice the word lists as you get them.  We will be working on word list 12 this week.  Some children are still struggling with their sight words.  We do practice these daily in class. Let me know if you need an extra copy to practice at home!
Your child may need a glue stick or box of crayons for school!  You can check with them!

Kindergarten news for the week of January 8th

Kindergarten Newsletter for the week of January 8th – 12th
·         The second marking period will be ending on January 18th and we will be testing for report cards.  Students will be asked to write correctly their first and last names, numbers 0-10, and capital and lowercase letters learned (a, b, f, g, h, i, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, and t).  They will need to identify capital and lowercase letters and sounds, numbers 0-10, count orally to 100, basic shapes, and rhyming words.  Students will be asked to blend 2, 3, and 4 letter words and read some already learned high- frequency sight words.  Please take some time to review these skills with your child.  Report cards will be sent home shortly after the end of the marking period

·         There will be a monthly PTO Meeting on Tuesday-January 8th. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend! Students will receive their blue North Schuylkill Elementary T-shirts as a gift from the PTO!  Some classes have already received theirs, but they ran out of some of the smaller sizes and had to place another order.  Students are welcome to wear their shirts for Spirit Days or gym days, however we are asking that parents keep in mind the T-shirts will be needed for class field trips.  Please keep them on hand for such events!  (Keep in mind that if your child’s shirt is lost or damaged, parents will be responsible for purchasing a new one.)

·         In phonics next week we will learn the letter Uu as in umbrella and unicorn.  Please see the attached state project for “U” for United States.  There will be no “U” show and tell.

·         In math we will be comparing sets of objects, comparing numbers through 6, weighing objects and ordering objects by weight, adding sets and using numbers to describe how many objects are in a set.

·         In reading this week we will be continuing with our book Seeds.

·         Monday will be day number 4 on our rotation schedule.

·         We will be taking the dibels test either on Tuesday or Wednesday.  I will only let you know if the results were not as good as they should be for this time of the year.  We should know the results in a few weeks.

·         I will send the January book orders home next week!
