Kindergarten week of March 26th - 30th


Kindergarten News for the week of March 26th – 30th
Phonics- We will be learning our last letter of the alphabet next week.  It is the letter Qq as in quilt.  We will have the girls be “queen for a day” on Thursday- March 29th and we will celebrate the wedding of “Q” and “U” on the Tuesday before Easter.  Dressing up is optional for both days!  Sometimes the children dressed for the wedding as if they were going to a wedding!  (They’ll never forget that Q and U go together!)
Math- We will concentrate on learning the numbers 11-30, use tangrams and work with coins and shapes.
Reading- We will read a classic story The Little Engine that Could.   We will also learn the comprehension skill of setting and know that this book is fiction. 
Report cards came home today.  Please return them as soon as possible.
In Science we will continue to learn about wood and paper.
Easter will be here soon!

Kindergarten week of March 19th - 23rd


Kindergarten News

v Next week we will be working on the letter Ww and its sound as in wagon and watermelon.  Review identifying and writing letters learned.  Also practice blending letters in three, four, and five letter words.  We will have Show & Tell on Thursday.

v To go along with our letter Ww, we will have Wacky Hair Day on Friday, March 23rd .  Start thinking about a wacky hairstyle for the day.  Remember boys with short hair can always wear WIGS—they are wacky too!!!

v In reading our story will be Messenger, Messenger!  It is about a bike delivery person that works in a city.

v Wednesday, March 21st will be WATERY WEDNESDAY in Kindergarten.  We will be talking about water and completing different experiments involving water throughout the day.  It will be WONDERFUL!

v As a theme for the week we will be discussing different kinds of weather.  Maybe we will even have a future meteorologist in our midst!

v In Math we will be working with measurement.  We’ll be comparing, ordering, and measuring length, capacity, and weight.  **Please continue to practice identifying the coins penny, nickel, and dime and review their values.

Report cards will come home on Friday!

Kindergarten news for the letter Xx and the week of March 12th

Kindergarten News for the week of March 12th - 16th


Next week we will be working on the letter Xx as in the end of fox and x-ray.  Students will go on a treasure hunt throughout the building to find the “X” that marks the spot of their hidden treasure!  This treasure hunt will be on Friday.  How exciting!!!  There will be NO Show and Tell.

I hope you enjoyed the newspaper activities this week!  Please send in my ad for a small treat! 

In reading this week we will read the story Mayday! Mayday!.  This is an informational text.  We will discuss cause and effect.  Continue to read the little books I send home for fluency practice. 

In kidwriting the children are beginning to attempt to write 2 or more sentences on their own each day!  This is scary for some children but some took right off with it! 

In math we will work with tangram pieces, identify small and large shapes, begin to measure length, graph a picture on a pictograph and explore slides, flips and turns with shapes.

***Please remember that gym is always on DAY 3---wear sneakers!

Monday will be day 1 on our rotation schedule. 

***Library day is always on day 2!  Please help your child locate his/her book so they can get a new book each week!

Kindergarten week of March 5th - 9th

Sorry folks!!  I must be rushing the month!  I have the wrong dates for my previous post, but the information is correct!!  Have a wonderful weekend!  The weather looks great for later next week!  I'm ready!

Kindergarten week of March 7th - 11th


Kindergarten News for the week of March 7th11th
This week in phonics we will be learning the letter Jj as in jar.  We will be identifying the vowel sounds heard in words.  They will begin a new take-home reader called Pig’s Jet.  We will begin to discuss what an accent is and how to find it in a word.  I will test word list 15 .
In math this week we will be making an ABBC pattern with pattern blocks, divide by sharing, comparing numbers through 10, identifying left and right, and beginning to explore tangrams.
In reading this week we will read the story Max Takes the Train. The main character of this book is Max, from Max and Ruby.  This is an animal fantasy book.  We will review the comprehension skill of realism vs. fantasy.   Watch for homework this week! And Jj show and tell. 
We enjoyed having visitors from Bloomsburg University teach us a lesson for Read Across America day! (Dr. Seuss’s Birthday!)  We also had guest readers.  We will be learning about St. Patrick’s day, reading some leprechaun stories and Irish tall tales. 
Please don’t forget to look for my ad in the classifieds this week.  Your child will get a treat if they bring it.
Please make sure your child has their library book on library day.  Some children are telling me they can’t find them. 
We wish Devin good luck in his new school and had a good-bye party for him!  We also make cookie, marshmallow and licorice Cat in the Hats!
