Kindergarten News for the Week of October 1-5

Kindergarten News for the week of October  1st – 5th
This week in kindergarten we will be learning about the letter Pp as in pig.  To celebrate the letter Pp we will be having a Pajama Party on Friday- October 12th  during the regular school day.  Children may come to school wearing their pajamas.  We will do “Pp” show and tell on Thursday.  The letters we have learned so far are Ll, Oo, Gg, Hh and Tt.  You may want to check if you child knows them to recognize them and the sound they make by themselves!
In math we will be creating and reading an “AB” color pattern.  We will act out story problems.  We will identify the ordinal positional words first, second, third and fourth.  Lastly, we will cover design using pattern blocks.
Monday will be day 5.  Remember,  day 3 is gym day!  Please wear sneakers!
Please continue to label all of your child’s belongings!  Also, try to send in your fall festival.  We are still missing money from seven of our children.  The class will be allowed to wear “gym dress code appropriate clothes” for the fall festival. (No jeans!)
In reading, we will continue to read the book Dig Dig Digging.  This is a concept book and we will learn to classify and categorize.  .
We made applesauce today to finish our apple week for Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.  Ask your child if they liked it.  They also tasted red, green and yellow apples and we graphed the results of their favorite apple.  Red was the favorite and there was a tie between yellow and green.
We will have a pep rally for homecoming on Friday.  Your child may dress in “red and blue Spartan colors” or pink in honor of October being breast cancer awareness month.
Have a great weekend!  Go SPARTANS!!

Kindergarten News for the week of September 24th

There will be another fall festival planning meeting on this Thursday- September 27th again at the pavilion behind the Elementary School at 6pm.  Please attend if you are able!  Also, please send in your child’s fall festival money.  I’ve only received about half so far.  The amount is $3.00.  The Kindergarten Fall Festival will be held at the school on Thursday, October 11th.

In the upcoming week, we will be learning Tt as in tent, tail, and tie.  .  Take some time to find items at home that begin with the letter Tt sound!  Also, boys and girls are asked to learn their telephone numbers.  Please practice at home!  They will get a “T”reat if they can tell me!!

We will be celebrating Clifford’s birthday on Monday.  Clifford is 50 years old and the book company scholastic is having a webcast we will be watching.  We are also celebrating a classmate’s birthday that day so we will have birthday treats!!  Your child may want to wear red because Clifford is the big red dog!

In Math we will continue with identifying and ordering numbers 1-5, identifying a missing number on a number line, using a real graph to identify fewest and most, naming a shape using the three attributes of color, shape and size and lastly matching a number card to a set of objects.

Parents are encouraged to check out your teacher’s BLOG for homework and important information for the week.  You can access each teacher’s blog by going to the NS website at www.northschuylkill.net and clicking on Elementary School; then drop down to Homework Helpline and click on the teacher’s name.  This should take you directly to each teacher’s blog.  (The blogs will be updated at least once a week on a Monday.)

Monday, September 24th is day 5 on our special classes’ schedule, and students are asked to dress with School Spirit (red and blue) on every Friday of the school year!

This Wednesday- September 26th is Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.  I am asking that each child bring 1 apple to school for patterning, printing and making applesauce. We will make applesauce in our classroom on Friday!   We will also see which is the biggest, smallest tallest etc.

Our school store is opening on this Monday- September 24th.  Kindergarten can only shop on a Monday.

Our next reading story is called Julius.  It is a book about a girl who gets a pig for a pet.
Hip, Hip, Hooray it’s the weekend!

Kindergarten News for the week of September 17th - 21st

Kindergarten News for the week of September 17th- September 21st

In the upcoming week we will be learning the letter Hh as in hat, hippo, and horse.  Letter Hh is a consonant.  As part of our study with the letter Hh we will have a “Hat Day” on Friday, September 21st .  Students are asked to wear a favorite hat, a funny hat, or even a homemade hat.  You can be creative with this if you want!  Students will be able to wear the hat all day—we do just ask that students do not share hats. Show and Tell will be with items that begin with the /h/ sound on Thursday!  Watch for your brown bag!

In Math we will be learning to create pattern block designs, cover designs using pattern blocks, sort by color, and act out story problems.

We have been practicing writing our first names.  Please watch your child as he/she is writing.  Be sure to check if letters are beginning at the top, not the bottom and also guide him/her to use the lines when forming the letters.  Capital letters should only be used at the beginning of your name.

The PTO store will be open on Mondays.  Kindergarteners are asked to shop only on a Monday from 8:25-8:45.  Please do not put school store money in your child’s folder.  (Teachers will not see it until after the store closes.)  Students should keep it separate in book bags where they can reach it easily for shopping before homeroom.
Reminders:
There will be a meeting on Thursday- September 20th at 6:30 pm at the pavilion behind our elementary school for anyone interested in helping to plan our kindergarten fall festival.  We need lots of help to make this day successful for your child!!

Boxtops for education and Campbell’s labels will be collected at any time.  If you have any at your home, then please send them to school with your child.  The box tops and labels help our school to earn extra money.

Monday will be Day 5 on our special class schedule.  Please try to follow the schedule I gave you in your child’s yellow folder! Also, please label coats and sweaters your child is wearing to school!  I found several sweaters this week and no one recognizes them!
Please return “All about Me” posters the week after you receive them. I am sending 2 home per week and we will discuss them on a Friday.

Have a Great weekend!

Kindergarten news for the week of September 10th

Kindergarten news for the week of September 10th – 14th
Anyone interested in helping with the Kindergarten Fall Festival is invited to a meeting in the NSE cafeteria at 2:00 on Wednesday September 12th.  The Fall Festival will be held on Thursday October 11th.  There will be no rain date.  The meeting MAY run until the end of the school day. Please let me know if you will be taking your child as a walker at the end of the day!
  • Next week in Phonics we will be learning the letter Gg and its sound as in goat.   Please review the sounds and how to write the letters we have already learned.  We will have Show & Tell for Gg on Thursday.  If your child loses or rips their brown bag for show and tell, you may use any bag at all!  The bag is really a reminder!
  • In math next week we will create pattern block designs, cover designs using pattern blocks, sort objects by color, create a real graph and act out some story problems.
  •  In our reading story Fix-it Duck!  The children were introduced to the letters Ff – Nn.  Our next story is about a plaid platypus called Plaidypus Lost.  The genre of this book is fiction and we will discuss the comprehension skill of sequence.  The children will be introduced to the letters Oo- Ss.

We have already completed three weeks of school and many students are familiar with their bus numbers, however, we are asking that students continue to wear their bus tags or at least be sure to have them handy inside their backpacks.  If your child has lost his/her bus tag then please write your child’s name, the teacher’s name, the bus number your child rides to and from school, school id. number, and any other information you would like to include (address, phone #, child’s destination, etc…) on an index card or piece of paper and place it inside your child’s backpack.  This will be very helpful for teachers on bus duty and for any substitute teachers or substitute bus drivers.  Thank you for your support!

  • Parents please check folders daily and remove all left at home items.  It becomes difficult to handle folders with too many papers inside (both for the students and teachers).  Thank you for your cooperation and support!

Monday will be day #5 on our rotation schedule.

Now that the weather is getting a little cooler your child needs to be dressed properly to be outside for recess for ½ hour!
Please be aware that the book fair will only be held on MONDAY now.  You may bring your child to purchase after school from 4-7.  They will have a short browsing period on Monday morning.
The first PTO meeting of the year will be on Monday at 6:30 in the school cafeteria!
Have an Outstanding Weekend!
