News for the week of March 10th – 14th
This week in phonics we will be learning the letter Jj as in
jar. We will be identifying the vowel
sounds heard in words. They will begin a
new take-home reader called Pig’s Jet. We will begin to discuss what an accent is
and how to find it in a word. I will
test word list 17 . For “Jj” show and
tell this week your child can bring an item that starts with /j/ or learn a
joke to tell the class! This may be
written down or memorized.
In math this week we will be finishing the chapter adding up
to 9 and finding all of the ways to make given numbers. We also emphasized that the sum can be at the
beginning of the number sentence or at the end of the number sentence. (for
example 4+4=8 or 8=4+4) Our next unit
will about different ways to make the numbers 11-19.
In reading this week we will read the story One Little Mouse. Our amazing words for this story are: woodland,
vale, comfortable, nest, hollow and shadows.
This story is a rhyming concept book.
We will discuss consonant blends and the comprehension skill of
sequence.
We will be learning about St. Patrick’s day, reading some
leprechaun stories and Irish tall tales.
My ad was in the paper this week on Tuesday. Your child will get a treat if they bring it.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead on Saturday night!
